Uncommon Households: Inside the Mind of Architect Mark Peters

His award-winning homes are enigmatic, high-end and ultra-contemporary. Yet one of his main inspirations comes in a far more cruder form: the concrete block.

Peters is the founder of Studio Dwell architects in West Town. He's currently working on a new complex of single-family houses in Bucktown, a neighborhood that, along with East Village and Wicker Park, has provided him with a key testing ground for his ideas. And of late he's been working in conjunction with esteemed Seattle architects Miller Hull on 156 W. Superior, a glass enclosed steel-frame condo project in River North.

His awards include:

A Citation of Merit for 915 North Wollcott from the
AIA CHICAGO 2005 Design Excellence Awards

A 2006 Builder's Choice Award for a set of single-family houses at 2010-24 West Race
